Mango and sticky rice is my favorite Thai dessert also. I find that most Thais have it more as a snack than as a dessert after a meal. I think most Thais eat fruit or ice cream after a meal if any dessert.

Obama, in Media Blitz, Snubs 'Whining' Fox
lvdkeyes replied to CrazyExpat's topic in World News and Politics
Fox News is really a misnomer. Bill O'Reilly is a bigoted right wing pig. I wouldn't watch Fox News if it were the only network on. -
OMG, I am glad that it is not automatic with every post I make. When I sign on I click VIEW NEW CONTENT and I get to see any responses to my posts. I don't want all those e mails.

Can a non-Thai buy a house in Thailand?
lvdkeyes replied to MIA's topic in Land, Property Sales and Rentals
If you buy any property in a Thai name it is essential to get a 30 year lease to protect yourself, regardless if the person is a wife, husband or whoever. Relationships sometimes do go sour. -
Yes, PI is Philippine Islands.
-
Also Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma) and Viet Nam. Most of the poorer countries are corrupt.
-
PI and Indonesia are high on the list of corrupt countries in Asia.

Strange!! I am in Pattaya, only about 100km from Bangkok and not a drop of rain here today.

Why would you want to be pope? For the costumes?
-
Glad others are finding it useful.

Just remember that the bar boys, girls and ladyboys are very street savvy and know how to get your money. Be sure you know what the rules are before you take one off.

Not to be picky, but Siam became Thailand in 1939, not 1949. I once asked (more than 40 years ago) a Thai woman why they changed the name because I thought Siam had a nicer sound to it. She explained to me, "Siam doesn't have and meaning, but Thailand means Freedom Land". Then it made sense to me.

Chatuchuk Weekend Market is a must see for any visitor to Bangkok. Go early on Sat or Sun before it gets too hot or crowded, but the best bargains are to be had just before closing on Sun. The vendors want to make that last sale. Remember bargaining is expected and necessary. Be respectful though and once you agree on a price you are honor bound to buy. One last comment, BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS, as with any crowded place they abound and are very adept at their "trade".

Outrage over Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst isn't dying down
lvdkeyes replied to CrazyExpat's topic in World News and Politics
I think it started back when Tricky Dick was forced to resign over the Watergate mess. The Republicans have been trying to even the score ever since. -
Yes, sorry, you are correct. I print my own labels and covers all the time. I find what I want 99.9% of the time.

My bf says chan is ok, but it is better to use pom.

Do you know you can download labels and covers for CD's and DVD's on CD Covers.com?

I used to find frozen galangal in the US. Is it not available frozen in PI?
-
Yes, I was. I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath from 1962 to 1965.

A Monk's Life
lvdkeyes replied to CrazyExpat's topic in Living, Playing, and Reminiscing about Thailand
My bf spent his formative years in the temple, first, just staying there, then he became a novice and at 20 he became a monk. He left the monkhood at 24 to be able to earn money to help his mom. He is quite an accomplished artist, (http://wcartist2510.multiply.com/) so he painted in temples all over Thailand, staying in the temples. He was stopped doing that when he was 30. He also loves to sing and was a wedding singer. When he was a novice he would sing in the shower and the neighbors would tell the abbot that a novice was singing and he would get caned for breaking the rules. -
A bit off the subject: When I was in US I had a Filipino bf. We were watching Bill Cosby Show. Bill and his wife were in bed cuddling and he called her "Pookie". My bf nearly died laughing. When could talk he told me pookie in Tagalog meant the equivalent of "cunt".
