  1. They get a percentage of what you buy. A few weeks ago I was in the OTOP shop in Pattaya with my bf. After we left my bf told me the sales girl asked him if he was a taxi driver who brought me into the shop. So she would know what to mark up the price in order to give him his commission. I hadn't bought anything, but if I had, that would have meant that I got a discount.

    Forever Roman

It seems that skipping the country is some people's solution to their self-created problems.
  3. My bf just told me that ladyboys don't use "ha". It is sometimes used by male children to their parents, but it is not often used.
  4. I had an expensive Nokia with all the bells and whistles. It was stolen at Chatuchuk market. Not I have a cheapie Nokia that I can make and receive calls and sent and receive SMS. What more do I need?
  5. I think that was a wise move. Lest we forget the Sigfried and Roy incident!
  6. What I love about Thailand is the attitude of Thai people to live and let live. Generally, they are warm, friendly people.
  7. There are only two tropical fruits I don't care for, papaya, which is ok, but not my favorite and durian, which I detest.
  8. Bourdain doesn't realize that the tuk tuk drivers take them to places where they will get a kickback, well, maybe he does realize it, but his producers pay big money to these guys. Once in Bangkok, on a Saturday, I wanted to go to the weekend market, Chatuchok (sp), by tuk tuk. The driver persisted in telling me that the market was only open on Sunday and he would take me to a market that was open. I knew this was nonsense and a scam. When I couldn't get him to take me where I wanted to go, I told him to stop and let me out. Suddenly, he changed his mind and said he would take me to Chatuchok. I got out anyway and took a regular metered taxi.
  9. I think the hospitals have plans for people who want to come here for surgery. Check online.
  10. I don't have statistics to back this up, but I doubt prostitution has little bearing on instances of rape. Rape is not a sex crime, it is a crime of violence.
  11. Strongly religious cultures produce very many unhappy homosexuals. I don't mean that they produce homosexuals, but rather, that they make them unhappy. I dated a Pinoy in the US until he, because of family and religious pressure got married and had a child. We are still friends, but is is so unhappy, it hurts me to think about it.
  12. I don't know of any Thai who drives a motorbike who has NOT had at least one accident, usually more.
  13. LOL, It is mostly white with some bits of color from the fruit cocktail. Hardly worth taking a picture, but well worth the taste. The Filipina who gave me the recipe had a catering business and did mostly Filipino parties. She said it was one of her most requested dishes. I can vouch for the taste.
  14. Would you trust what a tuk tuk driver had to say?
  15. I don't see what this has to do with Siam's name being changed to Thailand (Freedom Land).
  16. It's great to have a bf you can trust, but have you considered what would happen if you should have a falling out or if something happened to him. You might end up having one of his family members as your joint owner. A 30 year lease would be the prudent thing to do in case the worst were to happen.
  17. I don't believe tourists really care how the government was elected. Economics probably has more to do with the decline in tourism than any other one thing. The airport closing didn't help either.
  18. Price wasn't part of the question.
  19. The problem with paying fines roadside is that the police can stop you for no reason at all and shake you down for "tea money". You may not have violated any laws, but still have to pay.
  20. I didn't vote because I want to see what others say first.
  21. Bob, would you click it on the poll please?
