  1. I suppose. Of course, if you can't get your hands on the right medication (or even the right INFORMATION on how to take care of Swine Flu or any other kind of flu at that), then you're at risk. But if you're the juice-drinking-chill-out person who can afford anti-bacterial soaps, face masks and doctor's visits - then you don't have to worry.

  2. I have friends who just go to Thailand to shop, and then resell the clothes. They actually even sell the clothes/dresses at prices cheaper than malls. They call them "Bangkok Clothes", and they're really nice and awesome! Is there a shopping hub there that sells really cheap clothes?

  3. With regards to hiring non - teaching graduates, I suppose the schools there should be stringent about it just like they are here.

But I shouldn't be worried because I'm an education/teaching graduate (currently teaching Korean students online here in the Philippines). I'm actually thinking about teaching ESL as well, because I'm an English major. And of course - I want to do it all legally. Which is why I've been reading, researching and of course, asking around.

By the way, the starting pay is huge in comparison to the starting pay for new teachers here.. University teachers get bigger than highschool and elementary teachers, though. What about the cost of living there? Is 25,000 baht enough? Is 60,000 enough for a single woman (who has a kid back home to support?)

  4. For some reason, some commercials from where we are say that we shouldn't be afraid of swine flu, and that what's important is to take the right preventive measures - proper hand washing, using of tissue paper when sneezing/coughing.

But I'm not really sure if I should "not be scared". IF It were up to me i'd hoard all the Tamiflu I can get my hands on. Especially now that there's a second wave coming.

  5. I'm from the Philippines. While I have (in some other folder of this forum), expressed interest in teaching. But as of the moment, to make ends meet I've also tried selling clothes online aside from my day job. There's this huge network site with plenty of sellers from all over (Asia, usually) and there are a lot of sellers like me as well. I'm from the south of the Philippines, so as you know, I purchase my stuff in Manila because they're cheaper. My sources usually say say that these clothes are either from Bangkok or China.

Bangkok clothes are usually more glamorous and all. I was wondering if it really is cheap there, how to shop when I'm from here and if there's any way that you guys know wholesale online sellers that ship directly to the Philippines.

  6. Hi. I'm Elle from the PI. I have a couple of friends who are now in thailand, teaching English (I think). I'm not really sure about it because I haven't really talked to them ever since they left, but I think the idea sounds interesting. I just have a couple of queries - maybe some of you can answer them:

    - What do you think about teaching in Thailand? Are there plenty of foreign (non-Thai) teachers?

    - I have friends who aren't education/teaching majors, but they were still able to teach. Is that possible?

    - What is the paying scale for teachers? I think the regular rate here is 7,000 persos to 10,000 pesos. That's

basically around 4911.25 to 7016.25 baht. What's the pay scale for starting teachers there?

Not that I'm really after money, though. But I do want to experience something else than the usual life here. And I think Thailand would be for me. :P
