  1. Never heard that one in the midwest. Something in the water out there in the Idaho panhandle?

If there is a sad irony, it is not in Idaho. It is the fact that my Sister is a highly educated professional, upper middle class white female. In other words I cannot fathom how she arrived at this juncture.

  2. Okay , it is that time of year again. Here is my New Years resolution. Exercise alone will not do it for me anymore. I resolve to add diet as well. My wife gave me a great left handed complement recently , I look very strong, but I am fat too. Ouch, she is right, time to work at losing 15 to 20 lbs.

Anyone else care to tell the truth?

  3. We drove into Pattaya on Christmas Day to see Avatar playing at the Central cinema. Our 8 and 9 year olds had a great time. Not so different from what I have done in America. We stayed in a hotel away from the bar scene, I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

  4. I spoke with my elder sister over the holidays. She lives in the panhandle of Idaho. Anyway we were discussing her general health, she is operating on one lung after two bouts with lung cancer ( still smoking). She is of the opinion that the Swine Flu threat was greatly exaggerated by the Obama administration. She believes peoples fear of swine flu helped pass the health care bill. See what you are missing in America.

  5. DNA evidence frees Florida man. After spending 35 years in prison this individual was freed. He is 54 years old now 19 when imprisoned. He will be compensated by the state of Florida, however

I don't think any amount will buy back all those years. Think about where you were, and what you were doing 35 years ago. I wonder how many more are unjustly imprisoned world wide.

  6. Anthony Armatys is facing up to six years in prison for his dumb move. But he's not the only dummy in this story.

Armatys accepted a job in 2002 with telecom equipment maker Avaya but then changed his mind before he started. He was already in the payroll system however, and the company started depositing his six-figure salary into his checking account.

For five years, Armatys did not notify Avaya of its error, but his attempt to make an early withdrawal from his 401(k) prompted an investigation that led to his arrest.

In October Armatys pleaded guilty to theft and was ordered to repay the $470,995.53 in compensation he received. He faces full sentencing in January.

Because he pled guilty, He apparently knew what might happen, so jail time seems appropriate.

  7. Presuming he is released (it appears he'll be), I'll bet you 5 baht he's gone in a flash and, of course, he'll stay out of Switzerland for a while.

Bob, you would have to give me long odds with that bet. I agree with you. My guess he will go to France, with no chance of extradition. Maybe we will both be pleasantly surprised, and he will face sentencing in California.

I wonder how the amount of 4.5 million was decided for bail?

  8. I too remember the pre-BTS days in Bangkok, it opened about year after my Thailand trips started. It sure is much easier to get around now. The airport link will be a welcome addition. I wonder about all those taxi drivers at the airport however. . . . . . .
