  1. PARIS – "very, very significant" cash amount.

..... offer is in cash. He wouldn't say how much. ............. is wanted in the U.S. for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in Los Angeles............. Polanski fled the U.S. before sentencing.

As a known scofflaw and bail jumper a significant cash amount is all his worth.Every bank account, all real property, all future royalties Plus everything he owns free and clear, or has an interest in.
  2. And innocent men sometimes plead guilty to reduced charges if they think it will save them 50 years in prison.

I guess it is possible ....... About as often as green monkeys fly out of your ass ....
  3. I think it is a widely held belief, at least among farang that Thai drivers are somehow less than cognizant of basic traffic laws. My perception is that the " laws" here are more like guide lines. If we stop trying to impose the traffic laws from our home countries, it becomes much less stressful. In Thailand driving into oncoming traffic for relatively short distances is acceptable. It is not viewed as driving the" wrong way"

What still baffles me however, is why during a heavy rain or deep dusk, most drivers do not turn on their headlights.

  4. The victim, now 43 years old, thinks it is not wise to bring this issue back after 30 years. I heard Roman fled the country after the judge did not go along with the negotiated plea bargain.

The victim was paid an undisclosed amount by Roman Polanski. The judge is deceased. My understanding of the plea bargain process is that the judge has latitude in sentencing. In a plea bargain I don't think there is a binding contract. It seems as though he may been have willing spend one year in prison but not three. I cannot rationalize how the rape of a thirteen year old girl is OK because it was thirty years ago. This is not about a statute of limitations, it is about a man that has admitted guilt hiding behind his celebrity.
