  1. It's amazing how a topic about Obama winning the Nobel peace price can deteriorate into 'Bush Bashing'. Wize up guys, Bush has gone and won't ever be back. Time to move on .....
  2. Seems to me like there are not so many members or posts on this forum. Just wait until there are a lot more members, then the mayhem will be begin. I've seen that on many other forums and I just stop looking once that happens. And is a description like 'dickhead' allowed on this forum. Seems a bit rude to me.
  3. I'm using a shared wifi hotspot free-of-charge. But some days it takes ages to get a page updates/connection. For example today I've trying to upload Thailandvisa pages these past 20 minutes. I don't have a phone line and I'm told it's not so easy to get one installed. That's why I started this question. I'm thinking about buying one of these plug-in modules supplied by a alternative phone company. Think it's called CDMA or something like that. Costs about 8,000 baht + about 700 baht/month. What do you all think about that idea ?
  4. Just tested a few minutes ago. To Bangkok --> To Seattle, USA --->
  5. You results looks much better. But my question was more about TOT service in Patong. I wanted to know if my recorded speed is normal for this part of the world.
  6. 2 days and 11 views. No replies. Anyone got a view.
  7. I think it diminishes the value of the Nobel Prize. The fact of the matter is that there are plenty of other deserving people/groups who have actually moved World peace forward. Obama just has not been in the job long enough to make a real impact.Yes I know it's all about his potential, but surely it would have enhanced everyone's reputation (Nobel & Obama)it they had waited a year or 2 into his presidency. Just my 2 satangs worth, not really makes any difference to my daily life.
  8. I had a quick scout through the members list and I can't see any details about any member being banned. I see a REPUTATION bar. What does that mean.
  9. Not really something that happens so often here on Phuket Island. Sure we have our fair share of local crime, burglaries, stabbings, and the odd shooting. The details of this attempted kidnapping of a Thai lady dive instructor is still a bit sketchy. I have yet to see any details of motive etc. I suppose it got a bit more attention due to the previous week's attacks on foreign women. Most violent attacks here are between business partners, with the odd contract shooting to solve a dispute. I seem to remember the last shooting death in Patong was between 2 motor bike taxi drivers having a dispute over territory.
  10. No, don't think I can get that on my Patong cable TV ??
  11. I wonder how you internet connection is in Thailand. My landlord supplies wifi hotspot here in my Patong apartment. Seems to be TOT ?? Really slow. Is this the best I can expect ??
  12. Some local excitement in Kata last night. I seem to remember the last time this happened was a shoot-out on the main Patong beach road a couple of months ago. Anyway, here is the story as reported by Phuket Wan. Phuket Police Open Fire as Kidnap Knifeman Flees By Chutima Sidasathian Saturday, October 17, 2009 Phuketwan Breaking News SHOTS WERE fired outside one of Phuket's most popular resorts last night as the Miss Teen Thailand Quest was taking place inside. Tourists scattered as the shots rang out about 8pm near the Kata Beach Resort. Some visitors, thinking the shots were fireworks, hurried closer to see the ''fun.'' The firing came as a man who had kidnapped a woman by holding a knife to her throat attempted to elude police road blocks in an unfolding drama. 13. May we know who was banned, or is there some feature where we can find out. thanks.
  14. You are a wise person. I try to do the same.
  15. I would say it's just anyone that looks like they a. can be intimidated, and b. look this they can pay the money demanded.
  16. The 7 day extension costs 1,900 baht. No matter how long you extend. 30 days + 7 days is the maximum you can extend when entering Thailand on a Visa on Arrival stamp. If you applied for a tourist visa before you entered Thailand, you get a 60 day stamp and can extend for another 30 days. In most cases 90 days is the longest time you can spend in Thailand, and then you must exit Thailand. There are exceptions to this, such as have a work permit, over 50 with pension or money in the bank, or have Thai wife (with money in Thai bank or income). All those cases have strict financial requirements and you must have entered Thailand under a non-immigrant visa
  17. I agree. I guess we will both be defined as right wing wingers. But that's Ok by me as it's all water off a duck's back s far as I am concerned. I lost interest in all parties and politicians years ago as they are all in the job for either power or money, often both.
  18. The difference is clearly Black & White, or should that be White & Black. just my little joke, no offense intended. Actually I learned in my youth never to discuss politics or religion with someone you don' know. Just leads to trouble & intolerance. It's just the caption to this topic (Beck) that made me read, and then comment.
  19. Well that did not take long. I guess you can expect many more over the years.
  20. No way will the jet ski guys give up this lucrative money makers, the jet ski guys will still try to stick the rentor for damages. I'm sure there will be some clause in any insurance scheme whi will not cover the first x,000 baht of any claim, and that's the excuse that will be given to the punters. And do you really believe these guts are going to shell out thousands of baht per jet ski for an insurance policy. Dream on baby...
  21. I have to wonder why the 'Obama Administration' has singled out Fox for attack. Maybe Fox are correct in saying that 'Obama Administartion' is far too thin skinned to hear any sort of criticism. I really don't care as I am not a US citizen. I just find it very amusing that for 8 years the bashing of Bush was more than Ok, but now it's big no-no to even think about saying anything bad about Obama. I guess that's why I find the US news channels 'entertaining'. It was illuminating to watch last week's Saturday Live skit about Obama's accomplishments. I just wonder how long the love affair of Obama will last, maybe starting to fray around the edges ...
  22. Yes, you are quite right. That's why I do watch Fox & others to obtain as much information as possible, and then I can make by own informed thinking. I don't like it when many people bash Fox and then go on to admit they would never watch that *** channel. They make no bones about being 'right wing', and it's clear the say NBC have a left wing policy. That's the nature of life .....
  23. So you think that independent TV viewer pollsters are not telling the truth ??
  24. And what category do CNBC & CNN fall into ??
  25. This Phuket Forum seems a bit short on posts. Hopefully it's Ok to report local news (I've read the rules). Here is a current hot topic in Patong about the jet ski operators scam of charging tourists very high prices for damages .... Phuket's Jet-Skis: Insurance Deal Ends Crisis By Chutima Sidasathian and Alan Morison Tuesday, October 13, 2009 A DEAL was signed today that makes it compulsory for all Phuket jet-skis to be insured. The signing ends a series of crisis meetings that followed claims that tourists have frequently been scammed over jet-ski ''damage.'' Yet to be resolved is the case involving one jet-ski operator, Winai ''JJ'' Naiman, in which he was caught on film in two separate incidents demanding large sums of money from British marines and US marines. Share Today's Provincial Hall meeting of about 30 people, mostly jet-ski operators, looked on as the Governor, Wichai Praisa-nob, Ayuthaya Insurance representative Saiwalee Sakomjib and Phuket Jet-Ski Association President Anusorn Saley signed the agreement.
