BANGKOK, March 23 - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Friday welcomed her Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper, now on three-day official visit, to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

After an official welcoming ceremony at Government House, Ms Yingluck and Mr Harper held talks and hailed the strong bilateral relations between the two countries which this year marked their 50th anniversary.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues including the prospect of expanded bilateral cooperation in various fields such as trade and investment promotion.

Ms Yingluck said Thailand wants to increase its export value to Canada, particularly in regard to frozen seafood, rice, fruits and beans, rubber and rubber products, electronics parts and gems.
