Ubon
Ratchathani Province:
Ubon Ratchathani is one of Thailand’s large provinces
situated in the north-east of the Country bordered by Laos
to its east and Cambodia to the south. The Province is situated
about 600 km from Bangkok and has a population of about 1.7
million
people, making one of the most populous provinces in the Country.
Ubon Ratchathani City:
The City of Ubon Ratchathani is situated in the Isarn in the
north-eastern part of the Thai mainland. Ubon Ratchathani City
is the administrative Capital of the Ubon Ratchathani Province.
The City is said to have been founded in the late 18th Century
by the Lao people whose cultural influences still maintain a
strong presence.
Transport:
The Province and Ubon Ratchathani City are easily reached from
Bangkok by regular daily flights conducted by Thai Airways.
There are also buses and trains that operate on the Bangkok – Ubon
Ratchathani route. Travel within the City is mainly by the
local Songthaews (minibus or converted pickup transport).
Tourism:
The Kaeng Tana National Park: this park situated in the Khom
Chian district is traversed by the Mun and Khong Rivers and features
deciduous forest vegetation.
Pha Taem National Park: locate within the Huay Pai Sub-district
in Amphur Khong Chiam, the main attractions at this park are
its beautiful scenery, natural vegetation and historic rock art.
Temples and monument:
The province is also home to some magnificent and interesting
temples and monuments such as; the Thung Si Muang Temple, Wat
Supattanaramworawihan Temple, Wat Si Ubon Rattanaram Temple and
Wat Nong Bua.
Other places to visit are; the National Museum in Ubon City
and the Thung Sri Muang.
