Golf
in Thailand has experienced steady development and growth over
the 20th Century. The highlight of this is the Bangkok Airways
Open which was started in 2005. This tournament is open to amateur
and professional golfers and is one of the most prestigious in
Southeast Asia. It is part of the region’s Professional Golf
Tour.
Thai Golf is managed by the Thailand Golf Association. This
professional body was formed in 1964 to oversee the management
of local golfing tournaments and enforcing rules and regulations
in the sport. The Royal Bangkok Sports Club was the first golf
course to be developed in the Country. Today, Bangkok alone has
about 30 quality courses, with many others in major cities around
the Country.
In recent years with the development of the Country as a major
tourist destination, Thailand golf tours have become very popular
attracting numerous visitors.
