Phitsanulok
is a City located in the northern Thai Province of Phitsanulok.
The City is situated on the shores of the Nan River and is the
Capital and administrative center of the province. Regarded as
one of the oldest Cities in Thailand, Phitsanulok was the Capital
of the Thai Empire during the rule of King Boromtrailokkanat. Though
the City was constructed about 600 years ago, the area around Phitsanulok
is believed to have been inhabited between 2000 and 4000 years
ago. A number of artifacts including tools from the Stone Age have
been found in the area.

The City is served by the Phitsanulok Domestic Airport with
Thai Airways conducting frequent flights between Bangkok and
Phitsanulok Cities. The City and Phitsanulok have a number of

The Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Temple: This temple is referred
to simply as Wat Yai. Home to the Phra Buddha Chinnarat a prominent
statue in the Thai Buddhist religion, the temple was constructed
in 1357. Other prominent temples in the region are; Wat Chula
Manee, Wat Chedi Yod Thong, Wat Ratcha Bhurana and Wat Nang Phaya.
Other places to visit are; the Giant Tamarind Tree at Tambon
ban Kok (this tree is about 700 years old), the Phu Soi National
Park, the Sakunothayan Arboretum and the Nam Tok Chat Trakan
National Park.
