Nakhon Si Thammarat City:

Nakhon Si Thammarat is an ancient Thai City in the south of the Country off the Malay Peninsula. The City has an estimated population of 118, 729 people and is the Capital of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Archaeological findings dating back over a thousand have been found in the area and symbolize the fact the area has been settled for many years. The region was part of the Srivijaya Kingdom back in the 3rd Century. Nakhon Si Thammarat is known for its beautiful unspoiled jungles and pristine beaches.

Tourism and travel:

The City is served by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport which caters mainly for domestic flights. Regular flights are conducted between the City and Bangkok.

Beaches:

Nakhon Si Thammarat boasts a number of beautiful beaches some of which can offer a much quieter retreat as compared to more popular beaches. The main beaches here are; Hat Sichon, Hat Hin Ngam and Hat Khanom.

Archaeological Sites, temples and Museums:

The Nakhon Si Thammarat Museum: This museum houses an interesting collection of historic artifacts and locally produced art and craft items.

The Khao Kha Archaeological Site: This historical site situated in Tambon Sao Phao is a major attraction that dates back to the 9th century and features ancient ruins and artifacts displaying the way of life of the Sawai Nikai Brahman Sect who used the place for religious purposes.

Other attractions are; the Khao Luang National Park which features an amazing array of natural vegetation and waterfalls (most notable are; Namtok Karom, Namtok Phrommalok and Namtok Krung Ching), the Namtok Yong National Park, craft shops, cultural villages and the Wat Phra Mahathart Monastery.
