Nakhon
Pathom is a historic Thai City whose origins date back almost a
millennium to the 3rd Century BC. During this time, Nakhon Pathom
was an integral center to the Dvaravati Empire. The City is the
Capital of the Nakhon Pathom Province, a small province in central
Thailand.
Nakhon Pathom City has a population of about 120,818 residents.
The City is situated about 54 km from Bangkok and can easily
be reached by road or rail. There is no major airport within
the City and most visitors arrive via the Bangkok International
Airport then travel by road.
Economy:
The economy of Nakhon Pathom Province relies mainly on agriculture
which produces; rice, livestock, fruit and vegetable.
Tourism:
Though not a major tourist destination, Nakhon Pathom has its
fair share of attractions which include; the famous Phra Pathom
Chedi completed in 1870 is a magnificent religious structure
and the main landmark of the city, the Phraya Phan monument,
the Sanam Chandra Palace and the Buddhamonthon a religious
site constructed by the Thai government in honor of two and a
half
centuries of the Buddha’s being.
