Bangkok
is a major Southeast Asian City ranked amongst the largest Cities
in the world with an estimated 9 million residents. The City is
situated in the Central Thailand region along the Chao Phraya River.
Bangkok is also the Capital and largest City of Thailand, and a
major commerce hub for major businesses in Southeast Asia.
A Short History:
Bangkok became the Thai Capital in 1782 when the Chakri Dynasty
was established by King Buddha Yodfa. It was during this time
that the canal systems were built for transport and to provide
a barrier against possible invasion. The City was built on the
eastern banks of the Chao Phraya mainly because for military
logistical purposes to discourage and hamper possible invasion.
It was during the reign of King Buddha Yodfa that the “Grand
Palace” an icon of Bangkok was built.
Tourism:
Bangkok is a lively and vibrant Thai City, home to numerous
tourist attractions. The City accounts for a large percentage
of the millions of visitors to Thailand each year. The City has
a number of entertainment options for both adults and children.
There are many nightclubs, pubs, restaurants serving local cuisine,
health spas, museums and shopping centers. Kids and the young
at heart can visit any of the amusement parks in the City such
as; Dream World and Magic Land. Other interesting places
to visit include the magnificent Grand Palace, Samutprakan Crocodile Farm
and the Safari World Zoo. Bangkok has a limitless number of accommodation
options for visitors with numerous affordable hotels, motels
and backpacker hostels. The City is served by the modern Bangkok
International Airport situated about 24kms from the City Centre.
